Which model do you have? In Germany, their model years are different than ours. Their new model year starts in the summer, so that will lend to confusion when comparing that with our model years. For example, the 126 chassis was introduced in Europe in late 1979 as a 1980 model. We didn't see that chassis until model year 1981.

The invoice for work done on my car from my dealer has the date of manufacture on it also. A dealer near you might be able to supply the info you want. It would be interesting to see where in the production year queue the car was made, was it the 3rd or the 355th?

In California the month/year of maufacture and the month/year when first sold are on my DMV vehicle registration card. So I know, for instance, my 1984 300SD was made in November, 1983 and first sold in Feb., 1984. Might be worth a look FWIW.

Amgg, I gather you are not in the U.S. I say this because in the U.S. MB cars VIN numbers don't have the chassis number in them. You listed yours as W201024....... Prior to 1981, MB cars listed the chassis number first. For example my first Benz was a 1980 300SD, which was a 116 chassis. The VIN # started as 116. Since your car was made after 1981, your VIN # would not have the chassis number it'self, listed.
