Mice!!!
 

I have three 126's and a 115 ,two of my 126's 81 Sd,86 SE are plagued with mice getting inside.The other two cars are mouse free.These are deer mice as we live in forest, cute little buggers but I'M at my wits end trying to figure how they are getting into the interior of the cars? any ideas............

What are they doing to the interior?

Yes the cars are all outside,the only damage I've found so far is a small nest under the back seat in the Sd the material taken from insulation om inside firewall. But I know from past experence that they can really raise hell with wireing ,rubber parts ect.....I've looked for an opening into the cab area but can find none........

I wrestled with this problem on my Cutlass a year ago. I did a number of things to solve the problem. First, remove any food sources you may have stored near the car. In my case it was squirrel food. Next, I heard mothballs placed here and there deter mice. Wrap the mothballs in tissue paper to avoid damage from direct contact with the interior.

I also bought some traps. These were live traps where a trap door shuts behind them, since I didn't have the heart to kill these cute buggers. I simply released them miles away from my house in the wild where the local hawks feed.

When I first got my 300E I didn't drive it very much. One day I opened the hood and found a really big nest between the engine and the aux. water pump.

This was in a garage.

I tried traps to catch the mice but the local farmers told me I was wasting my time because they could reproduce faster than I could trap them.

I followed their advice and put poison in the garage. The mice took the poison back to wherever they nested. No more signs of mice.

the WORST kind of mouse infestation occurrs when the buggers enter your exhaust pipe and set up housekeeping in the engine. In cold weather, what attracts them is the engine heat from the 'pipe. Many engines on older cars ruined by mouse pee, etc. Solution has been to cut a slit in a tennis ball and fix it over the tailpipe opening.

To keep mice from the interior, moth balls seem to work...also placing some of the "mouse motel" traps underneath the car.

This is a big problem with many people who collect and store older cars.

Mice can get through the tiniest openings. I vote for the poison ... let them spread the wealth to the entire family.

This happened to my grandparents a few years ago, except they actually nested in the muffler on their motorhome. The end result was the motorhome catching on fire on their first trip out that year. There was a lot of damage, but no one was hurt.

The embarrasing thing is that we have two cats and two Rat Terriers.MB's seem so careful about how they route their wireing and hoses . I simply can't find their seceret tunnel.........

bribenz, you de man ! I checked those vent flaps could not design a better mouse door if I tried.I will get some fine mesh hardware cloth and suprise those little ------s ,thanks........

If you are worried about them getting into your engine - why not get a small piece of METAL window screen and put it over the end of your exhaust and hold it in place with wire. Car will still run but they won't be able to get into the exhaust.

When I was a kid, we found that mice had gotten into the parrot food we stored in the garage. Never found any traces of shells or anything until one day noticed that his MB engine hood liner was sagging. Pulled it off and TONS of bird feed came cascading down! :eek:
