Gilly and Steve - I changed out my MAFM yesterday evening,a dn replaced the vacuum tube (it snapped) near the AIR. The CEL and Check Electronics lights are still on. Will these clear after the computer rechecks and resets the values? In other words will this clear itself or do I have to take the car in to clear?

Give it a couple day, maybe Monday or so.
Was there a vacuum leak on one side of the broken hose, or not?

Gilly, Thanks. I'll give it another day or so...if it doesn't go out then what?

Yeah, it was a vacuum tube that I snapped, there was suction at the lower end.

That's a shame, I hope you saved the old MAF sensor, because if there was a vacuum leak on that line, this will cause that code too.
If it doesn't go out on it's own, have the codes read again, and also check to see what the self-adaptation value is and report back.

Specifically it will clear the code internally after 40 key cycles without a fault (maybe it was 80). This is in the text but for some reason they often clear the light out earlier.

I have never tried to clear a light with time. I have tried to clear adaptations with time and it will work very quickly. It is possible to creat new codes from response to the initial misadaptation after replacing the bad situation if not readapted.

It is my experience that 10 miles will get the adaptation relearned enough to not have any new problems. After that I guess you either find a code reader or wait.

Gilly and Steve - Thanks for all your advice - the CEL and Electronics cleared today! Though the MAFM may or may not have been the culprit it was a solid learning experience for me. That vacuum tubing may have been the problem - maybe not. In either case, I have a new tube and a new MAFM and NO CODES!!:-)

I really couldn't have made any of the above corrections without this site and your expert advice and help. I thank you both sincerely.

Gilly - if you feel that bad you can always reimburse me for the new MAFM...didn't think so. :-)

Thank you, thank you again!!

I'm the one who told you to NOT order anything, remember?
:-P

Yes sir, that you did. It's all good - the car is running fine now. No CEL and no electronics. I can't thank you and Steve enough.
