1998 W210 Display questions

I have been getting two inconsistent messages lately from my display:

Defective display: shows what looks like a windshield wiper icon and sometimes a battery looking icon. the message comes on about once in two days, then clears out.

BAS: I have had the brakes checked twice, yet i still get this message at least 2X/week.

Question: Should I just take her in? Is there something to check? Where can I have codes read, without checking her into the hospital.

Thanks for any suggestions. I did a search and didn't find anything.

Check your owners manual, it should have some info regarding the display icons.

Take the car to a auto parts store to read out any stored codes
If Not The dealer

The BAS sounds like a defective stoplamp switch...but Please make sure by checking the DTC Stored codes

"Display Defective" is pretty rare, but I've seen it. It's pretty much assumed that the instrument cluster itself is bad.
Because you're also getting the red battery display, your problem could all be caused by a bad battery or alternator. The washer icon means the fluid is low. If you don't have low washer solvent and the battery and alternator all check out fine, i'd guess it's a bad cluster. I'm not sure if an auto parts store can read out codes for the cluster and/or BAS.
