Fuel Adaptation Reset

I have a '97 MB C230, the CE light came on with the code p0170. After extensive searching, I decided to replace the MAF. The CE light went away for a bit, but came back on with p0170 and p0300, 0301, 0302 (multiple misfires).

I've read that after you replace the MAF, sometimes it is required for a mechanic to reset the fuel adaptation, otherwise the car will run rich. It seems that my car may have that symptom.

What do you guys think? Is there a way to reset the adaptation myself?

You could unplug the control unit, but you would have to find some way to readapt the throttle. I think you could just leave the key on engine off for about a minute or two and then shut off the key.

Is the deal with the key after unplugging the control unit? Or is that in lieu of unplugging the unit? I assume you mean the control unit in the rear, passenger side of the engine compartment?

Thanks for your quick response, Steve.

My guess would be to unplug controller or power fuse to it. Then plug it back in with the key OFF and in your pocket. Do all this with the key out of the car.

With it back together turn the key on and leave it on with the engine off for a couple minutes. Then turn the key off for 10 secounds and then try it out.

This is not the way I would do it and not necessarily a fix for anything.
