I wonder how many 722.6 trannies...
Have been "serviced" by people that filled 'er up with some off-the-shelf ATF?
Many 1997- MB owners seem to know little about the special serive requirements of these transmissions. Has anyone witnessed a 722.6 that has been serviced in this manner? Any techs with knowledge about the results of using the wrong fluid and/or setting the fluid level wrong? |
What's the big deal?
You put in some redish looking stuff, til it runs out of the filler tube, right? :D |

Thats why MERCEDES USES a Tamper Proof Plug on the Dipstick/Fill Tube... And requires a MB Tool to measure the fluid. I Have seen Several Expire ! When I was with Mercedes |
722.6
I get the sense that many people are following MB's guidance and believe that these tranny's are "maintenance free", and therefore do not require service.
I guess the jury is still out |
my car has a 722.6 autogear box
the service record book mentions that this is maintenance free. my car is a c200 1997 . |
If you do a search you will find many discussions on the legitimacy of the "maintenance free" claims on the 722.6 tranny.
