W140 caps for door panel screws ?

Is there a source for replacement caps for the screws in the door panel. One cap covers a phillps head screw in the hand grip of each door. The covers are supposed to snap into a rectangular opening at the bottom of the hand grasp area. Two little plastic tabs have broken off allowing the covers to be lost.
My MB dealer service rep says that they are not available seperately.. That's a crock ! or he just didn't want to look it up for such a small trim item ?

Does anyone know ?

where are you located? I want to make sure my doors are locked if I live around you... ;-)

If you cant get them, there is a product called bedding compound, kind of a sticky putty that never gets hard. Glass shops should have it, put some in the hole and push in the button it should hold. since it never gets hard you can get it out if you need to get to the screw. Try another MB dealer!

DanielW-
Nobody has responded, so I'll take a shot in the hopes that it may help you...
I have the parts diagrams/numbers for the W140 Coupe, but not the sedan....
Dug out the documentation today... wow, there are a lot of parts in the door trim assembly. I can't be positive, but think I've identified the pieces your talking about.
Yes, it appears that every piece and screw has its own part number.
IF the trim cover is the same for the Coupe and sedan (I suspect it is), the numbers off the fiche are:

Left Door 140 727 17 88
Right Door 140 727 18 88

Hope this helps.

thank you KenP

Thank you so much for the part numbers !

That's what I love about this forum..... knowledgeable people who will take time to respond to another enthusist's requests! Is that micro-fiche available ? At what cost, or is it a dealer only item?

I have attempted to help others with some posts about interior mirror repairs which I hope help someone else who had that defect but didn't want to shell out $$ for new mirror which would most likely break again as the 1st one did.

Thanks again.

have you ordered these? I have the same part missing.

however - im dubious - the tiny clip should be the same for left and right - its about 10mm x 8mm and almost perfectly rectangular. I also have the epc (have a look on ebay)....

DanielW- be sure to check with the dealer parts list before you order these... there are many parts on the parts drawing and several are listed as "screw covers"... I'm not 100% positive that they are the correct items as you describe them.
Bottom line is the dealer should be able to call up the same diagram (Group 72-200) and you can see for yourself. But, it looks like every part in the door trim panel has a separate part number... so, I suspect you can order the part you need.
If the dealer is no help, let me know and I'll send you a scan of the exploded diagram from the MB manual.

Update: Correct part #'s found. Door screw cap covers.

Thanks to those who got me pointed in the correct direction. My selling MB dealer service writer had said they were not available --NOT CORRECT !!
Another MB dealer parts person, (lady in this case), took the time to search the pictures and FOUND the CORRECT pieces.

# 140-971-00-28-7102 is correct for dark grey interior.
(95 S420)

Several other colors are also on the list but I think have different part #s

(2) only cost $6.80 :) and came mailed to me in under a week.

Luck to you, Thanks again KenP, and others.
