After replacing the serpentine belt on my 92 300D, I notice my A/C compressor will not engage. I replaced due to a few chips out of it, cracks on the inside, and the lack of any documentation that it had ever been replaced by the PO. The tensioner and shock had been replaced about 50k miles ago. The belt looked much older. I got the belt from Fastlane (continental?) and it was tight as hell to get on, even with the tensioner backed off all the way. I had to pry a little on the AC pulley and rotated by hand and managed to feed the belt on. It also squeaks now also. Due to very cold weather until last week, I had not used the A/C lately, but it did work when I bought the car (2 months ago). I also replaced my OE headlights with euros last weekend. Thinking I may have disturbed some wires, I checked today and tried to jumper the pressure switch on the sight glass - right behind the left headlamp. Nothing looked amiss as far as wires, but the compressor would not engage. Did I lose my freon that quickly? Or could I have damaged the compressor clutch? Thanks for any advice!
