squealing during steering

When I was driving my car recently at low to moderate throttle while driving (mostly uphill, but on flat areas occassionally) and turning to the right, a moderately loud squealing/chirping sound can occur. However, it does not occur at either very low or high speeds. really between 25 and 50 mph range. I can't really tell where it is coming from but does anyone have any guesses on this?

Could be a long shot, but i'd check air pressure and the wear on the front tires. Cheap place to start.

I don't think so. It seems to be coming more from the engine bay. However, I will give it a check. I checked them recently though and it seemed to be fine. Not a tire grip type squeal....more of a high pitched rapid chirping/quick squealing

hawkpfc2,
Have the belt/tensioner checked, bushing in tensioner could be worn out.

Since the noise occurs when you're turning the source could be the power steering pump unit.

unfortunately I think it is the power steering pump. I just had the belt and tensioner replaced about 5k ago. Occassionally when turning hard and really fast in parking lolt type situations, the power steering gets a little slow. It hasn't made any noise today but I expect it will fail eventually.

Check that there is enough power steering fluid in the pump unit. If it's low on fluid it will squeal.
