Just read his freebee on oilchange. It struck me as odd that he disabled the ignition so the engine wouldn't start immediately, preferring to turn the motor with the starter until ( I assume) it builds pressure. I was under the impression that the oil pump was more effective at idle and up rpm and therefore builds pressure faster at idle, therefore less rotations before pressure gets to the mains.

I'm new to the M103 but can the oil filter be primed before install or is the checkvalve not that trustworthy?

Sounds a bit extreme to me, as long as you don't gun it immediately upon startup.

I see no problem with doing it the normal way, let it simply idle while watching the guage come on up.

I've heard of some who prefer to disconnect the ignition coil on the 116/7 motors so that the chains doesn't slap around as much, the idea being that the engine turns fewer RPM at cranking speed as compared to idle or high idle.

If I had a 420sel, I would probably use this technique.
