Engine swap

What is the difference between an 617.952 5cyl.diesel from a 83-300D and a 617-951 5cyl engine from a 83-300SD? Are they interchangeable?

Good question, could the year or the fact that SD is turbo have anything to do with it?

They are both turbo's.

Several years back, a friend of mine robbed an engine from a Turbo 300D and put it in his 300SD. I remember that he changed the engine mount brackets.
