How do I replace the worn out buttons on the push button climate control - E320

I've just done a comprehensive search of the archives - looking for the answer. Crazy as it seems, the interior of my '95 E320 is perfect, except for a few of the buttons on the climate control unit.

Can I replace the worn (image is worn off) buttons - which are available for a couple bucks each - with new buttons? Do they just pop off? Or would I have to pull the entire unit out?

And advice - I'd greatly appreciate. Best regards, 71Rcode
