How bout the freakin YEAR-MODEL and LOCATION
If you are going to ask for help from members of this board to help diagnose a problem with your car, please have the courtesy of letting everyone know what the model and year of the car is. You are probably not getting as many responses as you could by posting a question about something like, your Benz isn't getting any fuel. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? Since there is no prize for the correct answer, many people don't want to spend the key strokes to guess whether you have a carbureter, EFI, CIS, or for that matter a diesel. I have also seen ads for things like an engine for sale wiyh no clue anywhere as to whether the engine is in Alaska or Florida. Also people will ask if a quote they got for a job was fair without giving a location. Labor rates vary from $60/hr to over $100/hr depending on the economic climate of the area.
So please folks, if you have a question, let everone know what the year and model is and where you are. Everyone will assume it is a Benz. If you are wondering what where you live has to do with anything, sometimes climatic conditions affect operating characteristics of cars. Thanks, Peter |

"How bout the freakin YEAR-MODEL and LOCATION "
LOL. How do you REALLY feel? :D Excellent point, BTW. Oh yes, my German car does not seem to be running right. What's wrong with it? |
Autozen,
I'm afraid you've missed the mark on this one. Rather it is up to all of us to sharpen our mind reading skills.:D I understand your frustration, and I suppose I have lost my cool a few times and maybe offended some people. Thanks for posting this. Have a great day, |

Easy, easy, maybe some of these people work for the CIA, and the information you're seeking is " highly classified ". ;) |
Hey Peter . . . you deserve a box of Jelly Belly's . . . or a Budweiser . . .
|
My Mercedes isn't running right? How do I fix it? The guy at Autozone suggested Slick 50.
|
MTI,
Funny you should mention Budweiser and Jelly Belly of all the possible combinations, because the Jelly Belly factory and the West Coast Budweiser brewery are right next to each other about 3 miles from my house. I appreciate all the support, but from the posts I'm getting I think I'm preaching to the choir, as they say. Thanks again, Peter |
Not a coincidence . . . I've made lots of back and forths on I-80 between SFO and SAC with stops in Vallejo, Santa Rosa, Napa, Vacaville, Davis . . . so when I saw Fairfield, you know the two things that come to mind! :)

Some include the year and model of their car(s) in their signature which is useful (and some include a whole lot more!). Some of the other forums make provision for vehicle type under your member username. Perhaps this would be a worthwhile addition to this site. Obviously it still does not help where a member has more than one car listed in their signature. I fully agree that as much relevant detail as possible about the car helps when posting a question. Better still if the topic of the thread includes the car model or engine type as appropriate.

Green 1989, 260E, 103 engine, Automatic Transmission.
Options: heated seats, Major modifications: Euroheadlights, 4 snow tires. Mileage: 379,476.7 Purchased March 17/1991 at 3:12PM My question. I dream of installing an E55 badge on the truck. Since this badge is certainly lighter than the original 260E badge,(2 characters less) how much improvement will I see from 0 to 100mph. Is this part welded, glued on or bolted on the truck cover? If I do this, will it cure my "annual-spring-new-car-syndrome" If so, for how long. I have search through my Benz CD, but this subject does not seem to be covered in great details. Your expert opinion is appreciated. JackD |
Which color code green? What day was the car painted on? Has it ever been repainted. What color interior, and is it MBTEX or leather? Is that the 722.424 transmission, or 722.434? Are you assuming the same corrected altitude on both of the 0 to 100mph runs? What octane do you use? Synthetic or dino oil? Is WHICH part welded, glued or bolted to the trunk lid, the original or the new one?
Actually the E55 badge would only be 1 digit shorter than a 260E. Maybe with the Daimler-Chrysler merger, a more appropriate mod whould be to obtain just the "4" from a 400E badge, put it in front of the "260E" badge, remove the 0 and E so it says "426", then kids will come up to you at the traffic lights and say "HEY! That thing got a Hemi in it?!!!" Also in this case you will still lose 1 digit and also increase your 0 to 100 speeds. Unless we know a few details like this, there is no way we can help you. Gilly |
I did not know a moderator and an MB specialists could be funny. I should have known better.
:) :) :) Gilly: I'll include all those details with any future questions. JackD |
You will??? Oh, I mean, That's better!!!:p

Maybe this thread should be a sticky right up there next to the use the search sticky.
Even better is when someone asks: Q: Hey I heard that the 722.6 is supposed to be a lifetime fill, anyone know about this? A: Put what is in your imagination for the answer. |
This is all just hilarious!
:p

Are you African-American or Caucasian?
African-Americans have a lower drag coefficient, for improved 0-60 times... ...and what about your religious preferences? Atheists have the least curb weight, with Catholics and Jews having the most, due to excessive guilt! Democrat or Republican...Republican performance specs are on the conservative side and the front end usually pulls to the right! ...the list goes on. |
What's a mercedes and is it better than a chevy?
|
If I want a perfect car but I don't want to spend any time or money on it, would it be better to imagine that is perfect or ignore anything that would indicate a problem ..... long term of course?
I will take my answer off the air. Oh, and the fact that it might not ever start have anything to do with it? Additionally, this might be helpful: It has been started and driven, although I don't have personal knowledge of this. |
Ok, JUST to let YOU know, i have posted a question about my car (***1988 420 SEL***) and have gotten NO RESPONSE! Here you are flaming about people, yet you are totally NOT right.

How is one related to the other?
Personally I have received much more value from this forum than I paid for. Jorg |

Sometimes a problem comes up that is not familiar to members in this forum. Rather than dispensing a nickel's worth of misinformation, the wise choose not to respond. Other problems may be more familiar, so the floodgate opens and everyone who knows how to pronounce "Mercedes-Benz" will chime in. Fret not. I have some issues that I attempted to get solved with my first post three years ago that still linger...but as 89-300ce eluded, as you search for advice on this forum, it will be well worth the effort! ;) Remember...it's free advice...so you can't get upset when an occasional thread goes unanswered...it costs nothing to post... |
