Stalling at low rpm 1985 500SEL Euro spec

I would like to know why the car is stalling. When the car is stopped, the engine stalls intermittently. There is also an intermittent belt squealing. When the engine was revved, the noise became higher pitched so I am wondering if this is related. Would also like to know how prohibitive the cost for the repair would probably be.
