Testing ABS wheel sensors

On the cars I've dealt with the easiest way to test the wheel sensor circuits is at the control unit. Disconnect the battery, unplug the multipin connector from the ABS control unit, remove the cover of the plug so that you can see where the wires actually go into the pins.

Each wheel sensor has a pair of wires inside a shielded sheath, there will be 4 of these 'paired' cables, so they ought to be fairly easy to pick out. Test the resistance of each circuit - the odd one out will be open circuit. (or possibly even more than 1)

Thanks for the reply. I have 2 questions.

1. I believe there are only 3 sensors on the car.

2.Why disconnect the battery.

Thanks Derick

A resistance test as mentioned earlier measures OHMS. When you perform this test, all power must be removed from the circuit. The OHM meter or VOM(voltage ohm meter) will supply the power needed with the battery installed in that unit.
