I am wondering if anyone has tried to use resistor type sparkplugs with solid core wire & no resistor ends? OR has anyone tried the type of high performance aftermarket wires that have a solid conductor core wrapped internally in a spiral around a fiberglass center core – these type of wires have a relatively low resistance of a few hundred ohms per foot, but are supposed to suppress radio noise (EMI).
On a side note, why is it that the Mercedes ignition systems seem so finicky about the wires? Is it that they produce much more amperage than other systems? The peak voltage does not seem too much higher than others.[This message has been edited by RunningTooHot (edited 08-21-2000).] [This message has been edited by RunningTooHot (edited 08-21-2000).] [This message has been edited by RunningTooHot (edited 08-21-2000).] |

All Mercedes wires are solid. Yes, you could use them for a good speaker wire if needed. They then use a resistor end to get the job done for helping stop static interference. The Mercedes ignition system is one of the most reliable I have ever seen. IT is not uncommon for a 300E to have well over 100k for the first distributor cap and rotor. You have to run the right plugs and check the resistor tips with a scope.
