The brake pad wear indicator light came on after over an hour on the road the other day and it's come on several times since, only after long periods of driving. I live on a mountainous island, so driving here involves a lot of braking down hills and around corners. The manual recommends that you have the brakes checked as soon as possible when the light comes on, but how long do you probably actually have before the pads are completely worn? Is it ok to drive until I can get the car in, maybe in a week or so, or should I try to get it in asap?

When my light came on, I had plenty of meat on my pads, but if I were you I would still have it checked out ASAP, because you never know and rotors aint cheap.

It is so easy to replace the pads on this car, you would be silly not to do it immediately. Get MB replacement pads. If you go to a NAPA or similar and ask for pads, they will tell you they have OEM pads, but they are not the same as what comes from the factory. There is a significant difference. I have zero noise with the MB parts and the 4000lb monster stops like a go-kart.
