Hello,
I was driving home last night, when the oil warning lamp came on briefly. When I stopped at traffic lights the oil pressure gauge stayed at 3. I drove home to get some money to buy some oil, when I started the engine again, the car shaked quite badly and then it 'stalled'. When I started it again, it ran OK, but the oil pressure gauge what bobbing up and down really fast by about 3mm. I drove to the garage, and added a litre of oil. It seems to be running ok now. Does this mean I have an oil leak?? I really want to change the oil, but I am technically stupid and need help!!!!! Thanks everyone. Oliver 1989 UK Mercedes 300SE |

You oil crankcase has a capacity of about 7 quarts. Your oil light will probably kick in at a level of about 5-1/4 to 6 qts. I doubt that you engine would rumble that bad at those levels. Sounds like something else is going on. When is the last times you had your plugs checked?

I have just bought the car, the last service was at 128,000 the car now has 132,000miles.
Also, at idle the engine revs up and down quite noticably. Thanks again. Oliver |

I'm not too sure about the last service, it was serviced when it was in the hands of the previous owner.
But according to the service book, it had an oil change. |
