spark plug wire question, trans oil question
I have recently purchased a E320 , 1998 with 100,000 miles on it. I want to do an initial maintenance routine as a base line. I have changed the crankcase oil and used mobil synthetic, I attempted to change the spark plugs but after the first one, the wires are extremely difficult to remove, is there a special spark plug wire removal tool? Also, I want to replace the trans oil with Mobil synthetic trans lube, but the local dealer said only Mercedes oil can be used, is this so?

Hi, Ray
yes there is a tool that grabs the spark plug boot and you pull it out. About $20. I bought it through the net, Matco Tools if memory serves me right. Good luck and welcome |
rotate!!!!!
prior to pulling on the plug wire,twist/turn the holder while it's on the plug.this will loosen it ever so little but very important

While you're shopping, pick up a small tube of die-electric grease.
Apply a small dab into each wire end, before you plug them in. This will surely help getting them off next time. ;) |
The dealer is correct about the transmission fluid.Have a dealer you trust or a good independent Mercedes mechanic change the fluid. It can be a little tricky especially checking the fluid level. The fluid is supposed to be lifetime fluid, but at your mileage, i would definitely have it changed.
