I will soon tackle the oil change and coolant change. I have not had achance to find the crankcase drain plug and the radiator drain petcock.
Could the locations of these drain points be described to me? Also, is there a block drain for getting all the coolant out of the cooling system? Thanks for your time, Doug ------------------ 1980 Mercedes 300 SD 1994 Ford F-350 7.3 liter turbo diesel 1993 Chevy Suburban |
I am assuming the w116 300sd has a similar engine set up as my car, so here goes. The crankcase plug is located at the back of the oil pan on the left (driver's) side, you need a 13mm socket. The block drain for the coolant is located on the right side of the engine. It's near the viscinity of the turbo. It's easy to reach if you remove the plastic u-tube going from the air cleaner housing to the turbo. I think you need a 17mm socket with an extension and sometimes a cheater bar. The drain at the radiator is located at the bottom left corner of the radiator. It's a plastic, light blue plug which can be removed using a phillips screwdriver. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. Right after I posted the message I was outside looking over the car and looked under it and noticed both the radiator drain and the crankcase drain. The block drain is not very evident for the casual explorer, though.
Thanks again, I will be looking for the block drain this weekend. Doug ------------------ 1980 Mercedes 300 SD 1994 Ford F-350 7.3 liter turbo diesel 1993 Chevy Suburban |
