Question #1

I own 2 mercedes and was just wondering why neither of them had under hood lights?

Question #2

my 87 300 sdl has developed a leak on the drivers side of the engine...underneath (it looks like) where the injection system meets with the block...is this a serious leak? or should i just clean it off and keep watch over it?

The car uses about 1/2 quart of oil every 1500 miles, and it doesnt leave an oil slick in the driveway...not even a drop of oil

Thanks for your time and the availabilty of this board

On the 5-cylinders there is a "fuel return hose". I had a leak on my 77 300D and this fixed it.

I personally don't see the need for an under hood light. There was one on my wife's Caddy adn it wasn't good for much. Maybe the engineers at Mercedes think if you are doing anything under the hood, you shouldn't be doing in circumstances that would need an under the hood light (ie working outdoors at night with no other light.) I can see how it might be useful if you had a breakdown at night, but that is what roasside assistance is for. :D

Forget the underhood lights....I would like a light in the trunk when you open the lid on my 560SEL.....

There should be a light in the trunk of your 560SEL. My 420SEL has one. The bulb is a piece of cake to change. If its not that it could be the switch or the wire that is bad. It's located in the center of the part that opens directly over where the trunk release button is.

I agree there should be one. but I looked and, nope, nothing there. There is an empty prong on the switch for the alarm, though. I imagine there was a light there at one time. Would Partshop sell this whole light assmebly? or should I try to find used? I am open to suggestions.

My car came with no working trunk light. Turns out that the bulb stays on all the time so the PO removed it to avoid draining the battery every three or four days. I need a new switch, but I wonder now, is it hooked up right?
