Annoying Rattle
 

Quick Question - 1988 300TE...

There is a vent of sorts underneath the front passenger seat. I think one of the kids dropped some sort of nut or peanut M&M in there. Naturally, it shifts and rattles at starts and stops. Rattles drive me nuts. How can I get in there and clear out whatever might be in there?

I wish minivans, SUVs and station wagons were made like toasters...you drive onto a ramp similar to the ones at jiffy-lube type places, open the floorpan and all of the detritous which collects down there falls into the garbage bin.

Yup... been there. Had a pencil roll into it on my car. Simply started taking things apart till I got to it.

Been there .... what I did was use the hose from a vacuum after moving the seat forward. I covered a portion of the outlet that the vacuum hose didn't. Whatever it was is gone ....

If that doesn't work you can take your seat out, pull back the carpet, locate the plastic duct from the center console area and remove it.

Thanks Haasman - I'd thought of the vacuum cleaner idea. Now I have something to do tonight instead of subjecting myself to the Kings-Mavs.

I must have mis-typed the word.

Detritus = "...any accumulation of disintegrated material, or debris." Latin, same root as detriment.

The Durango was pristine a few weeks ago, but with kids ages 3-11, along with school, soccer, basketball, horse saddles, golf and other stuff being tossed in there on a regular basis - all in the climatic paradise of Western Washington - plenty of "disintegrated material, or debris" accumulates very quickly in there.

Much the same can be said for the TE, which does its duty in Northern California and hauls around cyclists and gear, a Golden Retriever (one who loves swimming), and golfers and gear, not to mention school-aged kids.
