What is the black box under the passenger seat?

In a Mercedes 190E 2.3 (1992, european, correct side driving, not UK way ;-), I have found a black box under the front passenger seat. What is it?

I also have some other items that would like to have identified: In the battery compartment, there is a pushbutton upwards. What is it for?

A trick I use to identify parts is to type the part number in the FastLane part number search. Sometimes you get a brief description.

my guess would be seat controls, or alarm

Yes, I guess it'll be the alarm, as the seats are manual.
