Fuel problem 1988 300E please help!

My 300e runs great with a full tank of petrol, however when the fuel level gets down to near empty the car becomes a absoulte rocket, like it`s got 20% more grunt and it feels smoother, can anyone explain this, what i`ve noticed is that the pressure build up in the tank is much higher when close to empty than when full, you know, when you take the petrol cap off the pressure hiss as it escapes. answers anyone?
Cheers George

That is because you made the car soooo much lighter by emtying that fuel. It is faster and more powerful with no load.

No, sorry you do`nt understand it`s not like throwing out a passenger, there`s better throttle resonse, the engine seems to rev out more effortlessly it feels like a fresh motor that`s just run in. maybe the build up of pressure in the empty tank is giving the fuel pump a helping hand is that possible?
Cheers George
