extra quart of oil question

Hi all,

What kind of damage, if any, would an extra quart of oil in the engine cause?

thanks,

It could cause foaming! Foaming can cause engine damage. In some American cars you can do this with no ill effect, but I would never try this in an MB. There's no reason to do this anyway.

Good luck,

OOOooopps

Larry,

Thanks for the response. I inadvertently overfilled when I had a major leak when I forgot to check for the old oil filter gasket. In my haste, I assumed all 5 quarts previously added came out.

cheers,

You should be okay with the extra quart... You may find that the excess will leak past the rings a bit, causing you to burn some oil. Foaming is a slight issue, but when you drive, you figure you have engine circulating in the engine, and in the sump, so, you'll have a little more in the sump. Just suck out half a quart!
