ABS Sensor Stuck in hub (107R)
 

I have tried soaking in PB Blaster, twisting, tapping with a socket (slightly deforming the surface) and heating the casting while cooling the sensor and it still will not move.

How do you extract it and is it easily damaged? Please advise.

If the 107 front suspension is anywhere similar to the 126 the sensor is mounted in the steering knuckle. You may have to remove the caliper and rotor from the spindle to push the sensor out of the knuckle. It is magnetic and has an o-ring or two, besides being a tight fit.

Mine were stuck as well. I pulled the calipers & rotors, then tapped out the sensor with a proper sized socket.

By the way, I had mine out when I realized that I had started out the process in order to clean the sensors. Guess what!
The tips that need to be cleaned are exposed by the removal of the rotor, duh, I didn't really need to "remove" the sensors at all.

Why do you need to take it out? Front end work?

I wanted to remove the sensor to get the hub on a bench to remove a carbide drill bit I broke off in an easy out that I broke off of the heat shield bolts that I broke off in the hub.

Last night I shattered the drill bit with a punch, drilled it out with a bigger carbide drill bit and tried another easy out. Dumb. Broke it off too. Drilled out with the same carbide bit, took a die grinder and a couple of diamond tools and made the hole close to original, ran a drill through it and re-tapped it. It was almost like chasing the threads. Done and no more need to pull the sensor.

I intended to pull all the A arms and the sub frame to R&R the rubber but I think I will just do the jobs one at a time only because of the abs sensor.

I hope I didn't damage the sensor... Is it easy t test?

I do have a question about the heat shield. Mine broke a weld or something and the hub rubbed part of the heat sheld away that covers the ABS marks. Is this part important? could I just tack it dowqn and re-install it or should it be replaced?

Is there a connector in the engine comparment that will allow you to get the whole assembly to the bench? I'm not familiar with MB style, but my American cars had the sensor connector just inside the engine compartment (on the wheel well). Just unpluged it and removed the whole hub assy to do bearings, etc.

Before I learned that neat trick, I destroyed one sensor @ 58.00...
