wiring harnesses part numbers?
 

Hello,

Looks like the last thing done to my 1993 400E before I bought it was with the windshield washer level sensor or something to that nature. That was back at 21,000 miles. The vehicle now has 50,000 miles.

I know that these engines were prone to bad insulation on the wiring harnesses. I know that one of them is the fuel injection wiring harness. What is/are the others? Does anybody know what the part numbers are for them? Cost? How easy is it to replace them?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I thought this problem was limited to engine wiring harnesses of 1993-1995 M104 engines, C280, 300E (3.2 and 2.8), E320, S320.

Check the insulation on the engine wiring harness of your car. You'll have to peel back some of the black covering to see the actual wiring insulation. If it looks 200 years old, then you have to replace the engine wiring harness.

If you need the part number check the multi-point connector near the module box. Usually there is a label located near that connection, should be labeled with the part number. It seems that most LH-SFI and HFM-SFI fuel injection harnesses were plagued with the biodegradable insulation. :eek:

Hi Kestas, I've seen plenty of wiring harnesses fail on 104, 111, and 119 engines.

Kestas, where in motor city are you? I just moved from St. Clair Shores down here to the Gulf coast of Florida. I love it down here. Plenty of nice low mileage MBs to choose from.

I'm in Livonia. You're right about the cars. I bought my E320 from a small dealer near the Tampa area using eBay. I also bought my mother a Mercury from West Palm Beach (also eBay) where she lives.

Face it, the reality is that there's a lot of rich - and even not so rich - folk that get old, move to Florida, buy new cars, they don't drive a lot, then they die. Their heirs don't have a lot of time to dispose the property, so they let these small time dealers do it for them.

From now on I I'll be buying all my used cars from Florida.

Yeah, I thought wiring harness failures were limited to M104 engines, but it seems that the engine wiring harnesses are failing on all engines from 1993-1995. Bummer.

I just read one poster on BenzWorld mention that the supplier of this dreaded wiring also made the same wiring for other makes (Volvo and Saab). Apparently we're not the only ones having to pay for this mistake.
