window regulator replacement... screw up
Hi... I replaced the driver's window regulator on my car. All is well except that if I shut the door when the windo is down, it sort of rattles. During the reinstallation, I had this white plastic piece that I couldn't figure out where it went. I am guessing thats probably the reason why its doing that. Can anyone tell me more about this piece?

The only piece that comes to mind it the white "Slide" which is on the end of the arm. But I can't imagine the window functioning properly without this piece in place.
Please post a picture of piece. |

Its covered in black window grease, but if it were totally clean, it would be a white plastic with some metal parts. The size is somewhat smaller than a hot wheels car... I have a feeling that it goes to the rails of the window... but I;m not sure. I will try to find a picture through the archives if there's one. The window functions... but when the window is all the way down, and I shut the door... it makes a sound as if the window would shatter. When its closed(fully up)... it sounds normal. |
it sounds to me like the arm of your regulator is sitting in the window track without the guide jaw(the white plastic piece)...in order for the window to work, you need the little plastic piece attached to the regulator arm....the sound you are hearing i think is the arm slapping against the window glass when you shut the door...do a search on regulator guide jaw...theres quite a bit of info in the diesel discussion about it

hey drtysouth... I did a search and don't see something that would help me figure out where it goes. Can you tell me where? thanks

ok, you have the arm of the regulator that connects to the greased track on the bottom of the window...well,the white plastic piece is what connects them together...the white piece slides back and forth in the track as you lift and lower the window...

thats not it.. but its similar.
I did a sketch of it on MSPAINT... hopefully can identify it. The arrow is pointing to the brass piece thats part of the piece. |

the brass piece is the rivet that holds the plastic piece onto the regulator arm...if you go to Fastlane and look under "Body Mechanical and Trim" and click on regulator guide jaw...thats the piece you need...below is a picture of the plastic piece attached to the regulator arm....its a regulator i have for sale if youre interested in buying one, im asking $80 for the whole regulator assembly including the window motor, all you would have to do is remove the one you have and install this one with no trouble...its for a left front door

whoops,i just realized the part you were talking about....im not sure what that does, all the regulator guides in my car look the same....i just replaced the one in the right rear door, and the one i just took a picture of is for the front left, so im not sure you really need that kind
|
hmm.. then I don't know why my window rattles when its down and i shut the door? Do you know what piece I am talking about? if you have it.. can you take a pic of it? thanks

Two possibilities if it is what I think:
1. The stop of the widow regulator is not adjusted properly, so that the glass drops down too low. The bottom channel guide of the glass is off track. 2. The bottom channel guide is broken. If you raise the window half way and the galss is tight then the stop needs to be adjusted properly. |
