MB-Convert,

The only U.S. model W124's that came with the 23.8 gallon tank are the 1992-1993 500E, 1994 E500 and the 1995 E300D (which was introduced in the spring of '94). The rest all came with 18.5 gallon tanks.

24 gallon tank

It doesn't surprise me that the larger tanks were so limited; there is no reference whatsoever in my owner's manual. I had seen another 95 E300D for sale on ebay which advertised the larger tank. That listing was the only way I knew it was a possibility.

The first time I checked my mileage, by watching the gauge, I thought I was getting 40 mpg.

Chris:

Thanks for the explanation. I appreciate it. The car is white. I will post a pic when I get one.

I read the other thread that you sent me. Looking for a car is a pain. I had a lot of the same experiences. Hopefully I got a good one.

MB-Convert,

The owners manual incorrectly states that the fuel tank capacity is 18.5 gallons. The E300D came standard with the 18.5 gallon tank from the factory, but MBNA ordered the cars with many otherwise extra cost options (a usual practice) which were standard equipment for the U.S. market including option code 915 (fuel tank with increased capacity) on the E300D but didn't change the specs in the manual to reflect this.

jimmydean,

I'm not sure you have a special edition, due to your cars color. Does it have any of the special features/options?

By the way, have you looked in the first aid kit on the back shelf for your owners manual. When I bought my E420 (used) I was told it came with no owners manual. But I found it later in the first aid kit compartment! It doesn't have a first aid kit though, as the car was ordered with it deleted. The leather case containing the manual is usually found stuffed in the front door pockets in the W124's with the passenger side airbag (standard in '93) as it replaces the glove box.

Chris:

The car does have the drive side seat memory (1 & 2), and adjustable steering wheel. It came with 8 hole rims however. It does have the CD changer and the sound system sounds pretty good, like it would be premium.

I have the leather case for the owners manual. It has the maintenance book in it and it had a lot of the actual records from the servicing on the car (serviced at Beverly Hills MB quite a bit) but no owners manual. I will check the first aid kit area.

What about the stainless steel door sills, cell phone and burl walnut trim?

If you don't find the manual, go to the dealer or call M-B at 1-800-FOR-MERC and ask for publications to get one.
