Outside temp LCD
My 300e has a bright white high beam indicator light and the right side of the outside temp LCD is blue. I expected there was a blue plastic piece that should be over the high beam indicator which had slid over the temp LCD.
Now that I have it apart, this does not seem to be the case. All of the posts I have seen indicate that when the LCD goes, it turns black. Could this just be a variation of LCD failure? Can someone confirm that the high beam indicator should be a bright white? If so, what is the best way to make it blue? It is way too bright in contrast to the dismally dim instrument cluster. I am thinking transparent blue paint over the bulb? Also, the guy on eBay refered to in other posts who sells replacement LCD units does not seem to have any listings. Has anyone found an alternative source? |

Your wasting your time painting the bulb blue with any conventional trans blue paint as it will quikely disappear as it burns off from the heat generated. I know, I've been this route before! You can buy plastic colored bulb covers from any auto store, if they fit those mini bulbs, not sure?

Thanks!
I will check on the bulb covers. Since the eBay auction is over, but the seller indicated he had more temp displays, I emailed him. I now see why I did not find this last night. I searched for W124 and 300E, but not for 124. |

It sounds like the plastic strip that covers the warning bulbs is either very faded or missing the part that covers the high beam indicator. This part is available seperately from the instrument cluster housing. It should be part #124 584 34 21. You should check with your local dealer to be sure that this is the correct part for your car.
