Overheat..radiator hose off

I was driving in downtown Toronto during rush hour.

It was very slow traffic, the temperature started to rise.
Then it got to the point where I see steam coming out of the front hood seams. Uh-Oh i said to myself. So i pulled over, opened hood, and I see the hose from the top hose coming from the radiator off, and coolant just dripping out from it and all over the right near side.
BTW, this hose has come off before.

Should this happen? Why didn't the aux fan turn on to cool car down? Is there so much pressure that this hose is coming off? Doesn't make sense. Do I need to replace this hose or that metal belt that has a screw to tighten?

I have changed all the fuses as a first step incase there is an electrical problem with the aux fan fuse.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Pressure built up in the coolant system and the hose popped off. Your hose was attached too loosely.

There should be a bump at the end of the radiator neck which the hose attaches to. That prevents the metal belt/clamp from sliding down and off the radiator neck, which is its natural tendency when under pressure.

Make sure your belt/clamp is on the side of the bump closest to the radiator, and secured tightly -- but not too tight or you will crush the neck altogether and have a whole new problem (Dont ask me how I know this. )
