Urgent: Need help installing tie rod? on w124...

Hey everyone. I am trying to replace the tie rod? on the rear passenger side of my 92 300e. Partsshop calls it a thrust arm link and quite frankly I don't know what its really called. Its purpose seems to be to keep the back tire straight, and not pointing to the left or the right. I know this because I bent it and my back passenger-side wheel was pointing towards the drivers seat.

I can't seem to tighten this part down. The bolt that connects to the wheel hub keeps on turning when I try to tighten the nut on it. The arm is sealed at this end so I can't stabalize it with anything. What can I do to keep the bolt from spinning so I can tighten it into place? Thanks!

What was the part number on the part in question?

That is one really out of date number but I think you are working on the link with the cam for toe adjustment. It has a ball socket and tapered stud like front tierods. I think a proper link has a 5mm allen in the center to hold it. If not one must drive the tapered stud into its hole and hold pressure against it with a prybar to hold the stud.

Thanks. The end with the allen, or in this case a star socket is the end that connects to the chassis, and I didn't have any trouble tightening that. It is the end with the stud. I will try to push it in with a prybar and see if I can tighten it up.

And the part # I posted earlier is the number on the part I pulled. I have replaced it with this: http://img.eautopartscatalog.com/live/L201285193LEM.JPG

I am having difficulty securing the end that has the threaded stud already stuck into it.

I'll try again with your picture. Proper parts take care of your problem with an allen socket HERE!:

Steve, you are the man :)

If you don't have an allen wrench, use a pair of slip joint pliars to force the tapered joints together. Then you can tighten the nut. Of course, we need allen wrenches to work on these cars don't we?

(Torx for newer Volvos)

I just bought a seat of allen that went from I believe 4-17mm for $13. I thought it was pretty good. Of course they're some wierd brand but they should get the 6mm bolts out of my brother's crank pulley.
Thanks
David
