1986 190e 2.3 16 valve
I am looking at purchasing the above vehicle. I have heard mixed things about the 16 valves...That they are a pain in the ass to maintain, and others say that theirs runs just fine...the VIN is WDBDA34D8GA240011 (if anyone would carfax that for me and post the results that would be mad cool). I was just wondering...general maintenece and such, the costs.
How many miles to the gallon are you dudes who drive this getting? What problems have you had with yours? The car does not have a key, so i was wondering if anyone knows how to go about getting one made without changing all of the locks. it is located in Maryland with a salvage certificate, if someone knows anything about this please reply. |
The VIN, proof of ownership and ~$15 is all any MB dealer needs to get a replacement key for you IF no one replaced the locks without notifying the MB network.
It's difficult to get comp and collision coverage on a car with a salvage title. It's also difficult to resell for a decent value. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |
this wasnt for resell, at least not right away....it was for a project car for me....more info on the miles per gallon, and perhaps the history of the title would be most excellent. According to maryland there are 4 ways one could obtain a salvage title. Here are the rules

Notice that the E-Bay seller in Baltimore is selling it with "no reserve" and in as-is condition. Basically they're telling you that the car has problems. I think the "we have no key" statement is just their way of saying "the drivetrain is shot, so don't expect to drive it away." The condition of the interior says a lot about what kind of maintenence history the car had. If you're still interested in this car, don't bid more than you think you'd be able to get back from parting it out.
A used 2.3-16 suffers the most from lack of maintenance, which this car seems to be a victim. At this age, the rubber suspension, motor mounts, subframe mount and other pieces, like the serpentine belt and timing chain tensioner are probably due for replacement. The SLS rear suspension can be a high cost maintenance item. The 2.3-16 at this age probably gets MPG in the low to mid 20's. |
thanks mti....still sad 190rev is down but what can one do....anyway...would it be worth it just to get the rims and what not on this? i figure of all people you would know best....do you think it would be a good project car?

Unless someone knows the history of it, I don't think anyone can answer the question "Is it worth it" or "Will it make a good project." Without having the car checked out, you might as well assume that everything you see in the pics needs to be fixed . . . and the stuff you can't see . . . is missing. ;)
