My 89 420SEL gas pedal seems to be a little hard to push. Is this a class problem? It's not that bad but I would think it would be alot easier when accelerating. Any thoughts?

The linkage for the throttle is quite complex. The manual calls for regular lubrications. Try shooting all of the joints with a little Tri-Flo lubricant. It doesn't have the solvents in it like WD-40 does.

I had this problem with both my 300 SEL and SD. On my SD, it was a $5 pin, but on my 300 SEL, I needed something called a fuel governor or something, I forget which., but it was about $220 to replace including labor.

After that the pedal worked fine. This also helped my gas mileage. I went from 18 to 21 on my 300 SEL after it was fixed.

Unlubed linkage in my 82 300SD-T caused this, as well as a BENT linage piece connecting pedal to other linkage through firewall. How it bent I have no clue (other than to presume dry linkage forced a bend over time, exacerbated by continual increases in required pressure), but it was hanging up and making for a 150-lb pedal.

Had the same problem on my 240D... turned out to be bent linkage. This seems to be a common problem... :)
