Question Rear end & Tranny fluid change - how much?

Argghh.... got my car thinking I was going to do all maintainance a month ago, and due to time / place to do it I see myself paying to get my car serviced

I got an oil change coming up in about 500 miles, just did the 82K mile service last month.

I don't have my service book with me here in the office. I had planned on changing the rear end fluid and the tranny fluid at the 92K major service interval, but am entertaining just doing it now at 85,339 miles I am at now?

thoughts? If I do it now how much should I expect to pay at an independant shop? an hour for tranny fluid change and an hour for rear end sounds more than enough time for me, no? so and hour plus filter / fluids? or would they charge less than an hour?
HOw much in $$ do you guys pay for this stuff?

Oh, and do it now or wait to 92K...?

If you just bought the car and the PO gave you the service records, you can judge from them when the next service is really due.

If you didn't get the service records and don't know when it was last serviced, I would chenge all the fluids. It isn't a matter of having to spend a lot of money. Its all about protecting the investment you have in the vehicle.

As far as cost goes, a couple of hours at the going shop rate should take care of it. Of course it is cheaper to do it yourself and it isn't difficult if you have average mechanical skills. Whatever you do, do not take it to any 5-minute oil change facility. None of them are worth a damn.

Cheers,
Wes

Yeah, everythng was done per service intervals at dealer, but I don't know exactly at which service interval it (tranny and rear end fluid change) would have been done.

I concur on not using express lube services, lol. I am capable of doing it all, just dont' have the time / proper facility to do it now .

thanks

Tranny filter/fluid change

I think the service interval is 30K on the tranny fluid.

I had mine done at about 52K as I didn't have full service records from PO.

Took to Clary's Transmission here in Seattle and provided parts. Cost $85.

If you DIY, don't forget the torque converter and the fluid in there.
