Climate Control ghost
 

Did a search and did not find anything that fit this wierd event. My Climate control has started a very predictable pattern.

It will work fine UNTIL you give it a little gas to go. It will continue to work if you take off real slow from a dead stop or depress the gas very gently to accelerate, but the minute you even remotely depress the gas more than just a little it stops blowing cold air and blows air at the ambient air temp of the outside.

What gives with this wierdness?

The same thing happens in my car. Hopefully someone can help with ideas or suggestions.

Check to be sure that your serpentine belt is tight. If it slips, the compressor will shut down and cause the symptoms you describe.

Do a search for "hot air side vents 190e". Common problem.. It's a vacuum leak.

My '91 does this as well and I have yet to have time to locate the leak. I think it may be under the dash, but from what I've read, it can be anywhere and still cause this problem.

Hot air is not coming out of the side vents. The problem is when you accelerate it blows ambient temp air til you shut of the car and restart it.

Believe I will check the belt like the first recommendation says.

I still say it's a vacuum leak. It is happening under a low vacuum situation, when you open the throttle. There should normally be enough reserve in the vacuum reservoir, but any leaks will nullify that reserve. You should at least consider yourself lucky that you are not getting heated air in your case. ;)

It actually sounds like it might be a bad vacuum diaphragm under the dash, or switch over valve, because the heater valve is actually open in the w201 in the presence of no vacuum.
