My '84 380SL has way too much play at center position of the wheel. It's got new tie rods, Drag link, and Steering Dampener. The majority of this 'slop' seems to be from the steering box. My '83 300d had an adjustment screw that I would slightly tighten to keep this slackness in check. I can't see a similar adjustment nut/screw setup on the 380sl- Is there one? Where is it? The steering box is certainly buried in this model! Thanks for your assist!

The adjustment is similar to the 300D and it is in relatively the same spot on the gearbox, about an inch under the exhaust manifold. It can be done with a shortened allen wrench turned by a wrench.
Although it can be done proper adjustment of the pitman shaft play should be done off the car. ------------------ Steve Brotherton Owner 24 bay BSC Bosch Master, ASE master L1 26 years MB technician |
