300E / E420 Gas Tank Sending Unit compatibility
 

I put a 1994 E420 (124.034) gas tank and sending unit into a 1986 200E (124.020), and the gas gauge doesn't work. It shows half tank most of the time.

Before I did this the 200E gas gauge was usually wrong, but I threw the whole tank and sending unit in the trash.

Any ideas if the pickups on the instrument cluster are the same, as in read the same Ohm loads for both sending units? Are they the same or different?
