Well...I thought it would be a pretty good idea to attend a collision avoidance course, so I went to one today. (The fact that the insurance company was giving a 10% discount on collision coverage if you took this course was a pretty good incentive.)

Anyhow, I took the 16V and the ABS got a pretty good workout.

A couple of hours later, the ABS fault light came on and stayed on. Anyone have any idea what specifically in the ABS system should be checked?

Does the ever go out after starting? If not then power supply may be the problem.

Sounds as if your problem is the result of overusing your brakes and the accumulated brake dust settled in the sensor area. This is probably in your front wheels as they put out the most dust. Remove your wheels, calipers and brake discs. Behind this is the sensor and the ribbed hub that it 'reads' or creates the signal. Over time this ribbed area collects dust and signal output problems. This of course is if it passes the test that M.B.Doc mentioned previously.

Good luck,

Doc,

Well, the light doesn't come on right away after starting. It usually takes a few seconds and then it will light up. After that it stays on continuously.

If it IS a power supply problem, is there a way I can confirm this? I don't want to have to pay MB for stuff I can do at home and if I can give them a direction to go in it'll hopefully help them out.

TObias,

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Make sure the charging/battery system is at or above 12 volts. If it drops too low the ABS will go offline and the light will come on.

Turns out the sensors WERE quite dirty.

Everything is fine now.

Thanks for the help!
