My front, drivers side "door check strap" is shot. When i open or close the door, it makes a loud irritable "klack klack" noise. Im heading down to the dealer to pick one up (I heard they werent expensive).
My question is: How do i change it?? is this an easy process, or should i take it to a tech?? ------------------ Agron 1989 300E Monotoned Smoke Silver 97 Style Replica E420 Rims 205/55/16 Euro Headlights Clear Corners 20% Tint 12" Sub-enclosure |
Pritty straight forward, simply remove the inner door panal, remove 3 10mm head bolts and the pin and replace. If you want to do a nice job, paint strap with touch up first to match your vehicle.
Note - the 3 10mm bolts usally come loose, use lock tite when re-installing. ------------------ Mercedes-Benz Master Guild - 2 years Shop Foreman - 20 + years - dealer. Part owner - MBZ Transmission remanufacture 2000 SL500 1995 E320 1989 300SE |
MBZ.Ian is right. He pointed out the
same noise on my C280 a couple of months ago. I inspected it later and found the three bolts were loose. Upon tightening the noise was gone and all o.k. ------------------ 1979 300D 133K miles 1989 300SE 1995 C280 |
Isn't the biggest portion and problem of this job pulling the inner door panel? My armrest is unhooked, but I hesitate to pull the panel. It doesn't seem to be straightforward like a 123 panel.
Maybe one of these days I'll get brave and tackle it. There has to be a trick to it though. Do you have to pull straight up on the panel after everything is disconnected? Thanks, Larry |
Remember to remove the 2 philip screws on the seat switch (if electric). The switch stops you from being able to slide up. Also the panal sticks on the top by the inner window seal.
Good luck Ian ------------------ Mercedes-Benz Master Guild - 2 years Shop Foreman - 20 + years - dealer. Part owner - MBZ Transmission remanufacture 2000 SL500 1999 ML430 1989 300SE |
