Wow! I'm surprised that the bolts for the hinges would be loose. It is due to the fact that they are covered with paint until disturbed, that I am reluctant to touch mine, even though my rear doors should be adjusted slightly inwards now to match the front doors. Undisturbed paint on the hinge bolts is a good sign the doors have never been off. This can suggest a lack of accident damage at resale time. Whilst I am not looking to sell my 190E (I am too happy with it), It appears to have never required any paint work anywhere, hence my reluctance to disturb the hinge bolts.

locry,

Where is the striker, on the body pillar, or on the door?

Mark

Thanks to Everyone,

I loosened the striker and moved it inward about 1/16", and the noise stopped. As a guide to keep the correct alignment. I put masking tape on the body along the top and bottom of the strike. Also put tape on the body at the leading edge of the strike to show how far in I moved it.

regards,
Mark

I haven't got around to adjusting the striker but I put two really thin felt pads on the inner metal face of the striker.. and the noise stops...

i'll be adjusting them though

im glad you fixed it... that clunk is so annoying...

i did that felt pad idea on the "hooks" on the inside of the door panels. once in a while i hear rattling when going over rough roads... its the plastic hooks on the door panels ratt;ing against the door sheet metal. just put 3m double tape, the one with foam, and attach it to the inside of the shhetmetal.

I had a clunk that was due to the handle counterweight not being correctly mounted. It snaps in and is has a spring to hold it in one place. The spring was not wound up and set correctly on mine.
