Question wood console window switch cover

88 300 SE needed new window switch and I had to get the wood console it sits in up to replace it, I forced the wood up up, like I did on my 81 300 D. Too my surprise it had a wood piece attached to the bottom in the front. It broke and now I can not get the console to stay down. I have the wood piece out and I think I can reattach to bottom with liquid nail. How does this go back together and how would one take it out without braking the wood again?

Thanks, Brian
