Geico?
Anyone ever have to settle a claim with Geico?
Our "new" 99 E320 estate had an unfortunate meeting with a Jeep Wrangler today when a young kid decided to take a continuous U-turn without noticing I was behind him. Good news is everybody is okay, and the damage appears to cosmetic. . Bad news is I'm leaving for vacation in three days and I won't be in our wagon. Looks like we'll need a front quarter panel, fender and hood. The kid was cited for failure to yield, so I'll be looking to his insurance to pay. So, anyone else have to deal with these guys? Thanks in advance Thornton

I have Geico, and so does my father. I haven't had to settle claims w/ them (knock on wood), but my father has; he was satisfied with their service and response times.

I'm not insured by Geico, but the driver at fault is (or in this case the father of the driver is).
So far so good. Geico is not fighting the claim. I am however negotiating with them on the rental replacement.

If Geico does not want to pay enough for as rental, ask them to recommend a rental agency.
I have had Geico for 30 years. They always offer something in the ballpark and have always settled reasonably for me. I have had three claims.

Just a little information about Geico,
The insurance company provide police with radar/laser speed trap equipment for free. As we know speed limits were put into place in the 1970's as an effort to conserve gas, and now are used as an additional tax. In addition to this misuse of a law, insurance companies boost their profits by raising premiums for speeding. If anyone feels like speeding is dangerous, before you reply look at the actual highway mortality rate and its decline as speed limits have been raised. Also many accidents which alcohol was a factor also are put in the "speeding" category - even though its abvious which one impairs judgement. |

As an insurance company, Geico has better rates than most. I disagree with any insurance co. giving radar to the fuzz for free. Geico is also against radar detectors and radar scramblers.
Speeding under the influence is a problem, but just speeding (80 in a 70 mph zone with little traffic present) is hard on mileage and tires, but is not inherently unsafe. Geico providing radar to the cops is hardly a factor in whether they pay for your damage.

Looks like I may end up going through my insurance and letting them subrogate against Geico. Geico has informed me that the jeep the kid just bought was not showing up as being covered.
They have assigned a separate adjustor to review this which prevents them from even offering a rental at this point. They have said this will take two to three days. The rental isn't a huge deal as we have not sold my wife's van as of yet. An additional factor is the local Mercedes owned body shop is telling me that my insurance company will pay no questions asked, but Geico will not want to pay their labor rate. By the way looks like damage is going to be a minimum of $5000. My question is whether I'll ever see my deductible back and how will it affect my rates.
