I have an ML55. The power steering seems to randomly stiffen, especially during turns. The dealership is stumped--any ideas?
Thanks, O |
I guess the only time it would really be noticeable would be when you are turning. Straight ahead should not be difficult for steering. Check the fluid level, belt for slippage. Does the pump make any funny growling or whining noises? It may be the streering box or linkage.

As far as I am aware, is a problem of the new rack and pinion systems. They randomly stiffen when you accelerate in turns. That is why I prefer my recirculating ball even if it is not quite as precise. Heard of this problem in a new S430 with someone I know.

Thanks for the responses.
I am familiar with the the stiffening during during, but the stange thing with this is that the steering effort increases randomly even with straighline driving (i.e. simply making minor corrections in direction)? O |
