need help with code on a 1998 c280
Hey guys I need help with code on a 1998 c280 .It has 78,000 miles on it ,and occasionally when i try to start the car it will just crank and stop for about 3 or 4 times then it will crank and start then a code 400 with the little wrench flashes.
Any help will be appreciated THanks. |
Sounds to me like the tip start system could be the culprit to the start-stop-start-stop-start. If your starter motors engages and disengages a number of times prior to the engine actually starting you may need to coat the flywheel with some lubricant. MB has a nicely priced paste for this application but an alternative such as “anti-seize” is readily available and will work just fine. The function of the lubricant is to reduce the initial drag on the starter motor as it engages the flywheel ring gear and begins to rotate. Apply the anti-seize sparingly in several locations and all should be well.
The 400 code that you are refering to may be the FSS (Flexible Service System) which is simply stating the mileage that a service is “due in” or has been “exceeded by”. If you have the manual you’ll want to review the FSS section so as to familiarize yourself with its operation and resetting procedure. |
