rattling noise under car

i have a 2000 e320 with 36000 miles. when i step on the gas there is a loud rattle that speeds up when i accelerate and slows down as the car gets to idle. it seems to be more noticeable when car is hot. im taking car in next week but was hoping it was something simple and that im not hurting car

rattle

check outer shell on cataytic converter. This can be corrected with pop rivits, or stainless steel hose clamp. Could also be other loose componets. good luck, Abe G

It's probably a bad converter. The catalyst inside is broken apart and rattling around. It's pretty common. I've seen a few that actually clogged the exhaust system and lit the CE light.
