squeaks, creaks and rattles 420

I have an '87 420 SEL that squeaks rattles and creaks in the front end. I assume that all the rubber in the front end will eventually have to be changed. What is the easiest point to start? I have little experience as a DIY'er . So far I have changed the complete exhaust - replaced plugs - pads - rotors and repacked the bearings - changed oil and filter. The rubber bladers on the ball joints appear to be craked as well.

If it's a $2000 to put the front end back in shape, it's money well spent. I would not recommend this to be your first attempt at suspension work. The job requires uncommon though not necessarily special tools. Things like a come along to deflect the lower control arm so you can fit the guide rod and a press to remove and fit bushings. Oops, you need a special spring compressor to do the job safely.

Strange situation - front wheels not the same distnce from the fenders

After I posted my original question about squeaks, creaks and rattles, I noticed that the driver's side wheel is 1/4 closer to the fender than the passenger side wheel. I jacked up the car from the center cross member until the wheels were off the ground and again the driver's side wheel was 1/4 closer to the fender than the passenger's side. This is very strange! Any suggestions?

I'd start with the upper and lower control arm bushings. Is there a camber difference along with the height difference?
