Interesting Odometer Gear Fix

The odometer on the SL quit working again after paying $110.00 to get it repaired a little over a year ago. My son got into today from Texas and we pulled the cluster and removed the speedo to see if the reason it wasn't working was noticeable. He tore it apart and found one of the gear wheels had four teeth missing.

After puzzling over how to fix it he came up with the idea of using J.B. Weld putty to form the missing teeth. He attached some to the plastic (more like rubber) gear, let it harden a bit, put it back together and spun the gears to form the new teeth in the J.B Weld and let it harden up. We put it back in the car and took it for a spin. Worked like a charm!!!

Pretty ingenious if you ask his dad!
