2004 E320 Help Changing Air Filters
How do you remove the engine cover to gain access to the Air Filters? I purchased K & N Air Filters and want ot replace the stock paper ones, but cannot seem to find out how to remove the engine cover. I want to do this myself as these will need periodic cleaning and I do not wan to have to take it to the dealer each time. Thanks in advance

1) Lie K&N filter on passenger side seat 2) position yourself in drivers seat 3) start engine & drive to location where K&N filter was purchased - have receipt 4) return K&N filter 5) return to 2004 E-class and appreciate the stoichiometric effciency the OEM filter creates.

I agree, the K&N's are NO good for a car with a mass airflow sensor, it can and WILL ruin the sensor, and if the dealer see's the K&N he can deny warranty coverage. NOT worth it.

Thanks for the info, but I have not had any problems using K & N filters for over 20 years. I first inquired with the dealer and there are no warranty problems. They have quite a few people who use them, so any help in my original request for removing the cover and gaining access to the air boxes would be appreciated.

MIKE!
It's the later cars that have hot film management that are the problem, you will contaminate the film matrix in the mass airflow sensor with the oil that's used in the K&N. 20 years ago, NO problem, BIG problem on a car with a hot film air flow sensor. FORGET IT! And the dealer will change his tune once MB denies a warranty clain on it, and they WILL. Gilly |
