92 400E AC Evaporator Leaking

Can anyone out there in the San Diego CA area refer me to a mechanic or shop that can repair or place my 92 400E evaporator which is leaking. I took it to the dealership and I'm looking for more affordable estimates. The dealership is recommending to replace the evaporator. Is it possible for the leak spot to be repaired. Any recommendations are welcomed.

Matt

The repair for the leak is replacement. The cost of the job is the labor nmostly, even at the dealership. Find an indpendent that will save you money or do it yourself, but replace the part.

I had the evaporator replaced in my 300d just a few months ago - I checked around with three independents that were all much less than MB - so far I am very pleased with the results. I also changed out all of the actuator diaphrams as it was no additional labor.
Good luck!

Matt, Pat at Exclusive . . . .

Motors does not do evaporator 'jobs' but I'll give you a name to contact via pm.

Check out my page (click 'www' icon below) under Menu#16 about my evaporator repair. It MAY be worth a try.

Ooops, thanks Paul!! And even more thanks for not taking the obvious opportunity to make me look ignorant!! I am on a slow ass dial-up and to save time I turned off my 'pictures' tool, so all I saw was a box with a red 'X' in it.

No problem, Cap'n.

Actually, my pictures tool was "on", and I made the same mistake.

Jim F referred to the "www" link at the bottom of the page in a thread several months ago, and I had no idea what he was referring to.

I had just never noticed it before.

Jim F sure has a good website, though, doesn't he?
